Staalslag is a rhythmical chandelier, made of 16 solenoids hitting various objects found laying around in the workshop.
It shows that interesting sound, rhythm and music can be produced by everyday objects that are not necessarily meant for this purpose.
Staalslag makes it sound by the process of mechanical automation; a digitally created file is translated to mechanical movement, the sound that is generated is the real unamplified sound the object makes, it a mirror image of the modern movement that everything is being digitized, it takes something digital and makes it analogue.
